As Morocco is a European playground, there are plenty of German, Spanish, and Italian tourists staying here. The men that hawk fake Rolexes and other 'genuine imitation' watches, make me think I'm in China.

I've found the Cathedral though there are more Catholic churches in Tangier. Masses are in French and Spanish. In the shadows of the main mosque in Tangier, the Cathedral is non-descript. From the outside, you can barely tell it's a Catholic church let alone a Cathedral.

The apartment I rented is a small one-bedroom unit. I saw a two bedroom unit in the same building but it didn't thrill me. They don't believe in air conditioning in these parts and the two-bedroom unit had a southern exposure making it warm in the daylight. I saw how tiny the living room and kitchen of the one bed unit were and thought "ugh". Then I walked out on the balcony and saw "Spain"! Hey! This sucker is mine!

It's a vacation home for the Europeans...nice on the inside and the outside but the rest of the building needs help. In the common areas, the interior lighting could be switched on and a few bulbs replaced. Maintenance isn’t a high priority for the common areas but it looks really cool on the outside and that’s what seems to matter.
Location! Location! Location! Though my beach days are over, it's not far from the beach. There are stores, night clubs, and restaurants within a few minutes of walking. The second of Tangier’s McNastys (McDonalds) is five minutes away. It doesn’t have a view like the one on the hill but you can see the beach walk and the gulf. Until we move to our field office, the office is a twenty minute walk. Right now, I see me spending lots of time camped out in the shade of my balcony surfing the web, admiring the view, and hearing the crash of the waves against the shore. The living room couches are beds so get your reservations in at Casa Bluelou now!

On my last project, a term I’d never heard in the context it was used was 'sustainability'. A simple definition would be ‘at one with the environment’. In other words, living and causing no damage to the environment. How about this for an entry?
I was sitting at one of my usual lunch spots when a guy pulls up on his bicycle, walks in, and walks out of the kitchen with their knives. He sits on his bicycle and starts sharpening them...on his bicycle. Check out the photo. He made a special stand to support his weight holding the bike stationary. Sitting backwards pedaling on the bike, he sharpens the knives. The key to the works is a rubber belt wrapped around the bike tire connected to the shaft that propels the grinding wheel. Talk about being environmentally friendly. He doesn’t burn an ounce of gas going to work! He wouldn’t let us photo him while working but he would allow us to picture his bike. The added components to his workshop; the grinding table mounted to a rack on the back, tool box mounted to a front bike rack, a bigger seat, and the retractable stand that allows him to pedal while holding the bike upright.

Like the UAE, the currency in Morocco is the Dirham. It's worth half of the UAE Dirham at 7.75 per dollar or 3.66 in the UAE. Dirhams don't leave the country by law. This is the 20 Dirham note.
