On a clear evening, one thing we like to do is go out and experiment with night time photography. During my last stay in Beijing, the Chinese were building the most fantastic structure in the most unlikely places, a restaurant over what we called S_ _ _ Creek. You fill in the blanks but it rhymes with mitt. Less than a two minute walk from my apartment, the creek is putrid but folks fish out of it. It was one of those things I hated to leave before seeing the completion. The moldings are spectacular.

At night, it’s a restaurant and the combination of the night sky and lighting is absolutely stunning. Also part of the structure that spans the creek is a parking lot. I’d consider the whole concept innovative rather than imitative. One opening over the creek, the Chinese painted a net green and stuck a few strands upward to resemble grass. The guards must have been told it was innovative too. We set up our cameras but the guards chased us away. I’ll try to get a few more shots.
